Assignment Week One: Campus/ Environmental life.

I decided to head to the Lone Star rodeo this past weekend to shoot my assignment. I knew it would be a completely new atmosphere for me. I've never been to a rodeo and although I may not agree with everything they do I enjoyed this assignment and the new experience.

Bill Eppridge

Bill Eppridge, most famous for his work with Robert Kennedy during the 1960's came to Western and I was able to meet him after his lecture. His presentation was wonderful, it primarily focused on his Kennedy work and what made the covers of LIFE at that time in his career. It was truly an Honor to meet him, and something I won't soon forget.

Here's to 21!

On Feb. 8, 2009 I finally turned 21! My roommates and I had a Playboy Bunny themed party that was an absolute ball. I celebrated with lots of new and wonderful friends, my roomies and of course I had a black and pink bunny cupcake Birthday cake.

Last night I headed out with some of the writers and photogs of WKU's Online Magazine, Rise Over Run for one of the local Drag Queen shows. I really wasn't sure what to expect but the only word that comes to mind is FABULOUS! I met Some brilliant people and just had a great time all while getting to do what I enjoy the most, shooting. Janiva La Diva opened the show by singing "Man, I Feel Like A Woman." Yes, the Shania Twain Song from some years ago.

Me, Hostess/Momma Diva Janiva La Diva, Cara, and Robin The show started off with a bang and only got better as the women would give runway esque walks from the back wall to the main stage area. I'm telling you I saw some walks that I was envious of! Lady Venus performed a Britney Spears mash-up number complete with choreography and a back flip- in stilettos and then she slid into a split. Talk about a crowd going wild. I was sitting right behind her as she leaped into the air. My jaw fell instantly to the floor as she proceeded to land in killer heels. I went out, felt young, danced, made pictures, and just enjoyed myself. I've been getting really close to a couple of other photojournalist here. Cara is from the DC area and Robin is a fellow Atlantan.

I guess it isn't politically correct to call it a Drag show because technically it was advertised as a cabaret show. Whatever it is actually called I definitely enjoyed myself and hope to go back next month. The shows are always held the last Saturday of every month with various performers from KY and as far South as Atlanta.

Let There Be Snow!

What kid (no matter the age) doesn't love waking up to snow?! Definitely not a girl raised in the south where the snow melts by lunchtime...if it even makes it that deep into the day. I woke for my 3rd day of classes and started getting ready as usual. I turned on the news, and Radar-the snow dog/general mascot for the NBC station here had made no mention of snow, only the ice storm outside. My first thought was of course, "What am I going to wear?" and then "Wait, how will I drive in this weather?" I looked out the window and I saw sheets of snow falling and actually sticking! It was beautiful! I ended up not going to class because the roads seriously were pretty rough and my lecture notes were posted online. I enjoyed my hot cocoa and class from the comforts of my warm and cozy bedroom. My afternoon class was cancelled and the school eventually shut down for the evening.

I have completed my 1st full week of school and I truly love WKU.
Main CampusFor a girl that was in love with the city I'm already charmed by Bowling Green. I knew I would like the change of pace that KY would provide but I truly did not think I would love KY as much as I already do. Yes, it is different then the "dirty-dirty" and I thought for sure it would take a few months for me to warm up to this quaint little town, but I truly am enjoying my time here.

The HillMy classes are incredible! 3 of them are straight journalism and the fire those classes ignite within me makes me so excited about the world that awaits! Meeting all these other journalist does not hurt either, it's always an incredible feeling when you can find others that understand why it is you want to do this with your life and what you plan on doing. It's almost indescribable.
