2011 Sunbelt Cross Country Championships

Admittedly, still struggling with my sports shooting but I'm continuing to work on it. My middle name isn't tenacity for nothin'!


Being around all those runners really made me want to go out and try to start running. I' d like to be able to run with Motley more, but every time he sees a squirrel there's only one thing he can focus on and it's running to that tasty snack!

*I really like this image, even if it didn't go over so well in my class. Sometimes I just want to enjoy a picture because I like it. Also note: it is my personal opinion, after hearing a professor say, "pictures are in black and white, must be serious" that not all black and white photos are serious. My first 2 years at SCAD, we shot nothing but Kodak tri-x film and very few of my photos were "serious."

WKU Homecoming 2011

WKU had their first home win since 2008 at the 2011 Homecoming. I was shooting my sports story on Big Red Marching Band (BRMB) Drum Major, Matt Lund so most of my pics were focusing on his point of view during the festivities but I've pulled a few outtakes. Enjoy!Because we Played Univ. of Louisiana at Lafayette Big Red got decked out in his most festive Mardi Gras attire.

BRMB members were just as excited about the victory as the fans that fled to the field!And the Ragin' Cajuns provided their own security...

Which was smart because when the Hilltoppers won fans flooded the field to celebrate the much over due victory.
Coach Taggert sang the fight song back to the student section after the victory. It was a feel good moment.
Some fans waited around to congratulate the Tops after the crowds had left and the Cajuns were heading back to La.

Today's photo snack comes from my current project on Big Red Marching Band drum major, Matt Lund. I'm not sure if this frame will make it in the final project but I really liked it anyway!

NOVA Center Opens at WKU

U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie visits WKU for the opening of the NOVA Center at the Center for Research and Development. The event was also to spotlight the Large Chamber Scanning Electron Microscope (LC-SEM).

And yes, that is me doing the VO...YIKES!

VSA Kentucky

VSA Kentucky is a nonprofit organization providing arts education to people of all ages with disabilities. VSA Kentucky specializes in group classes as well as private lessons. While VSA itself stands for vision for an inclusive society,strength in shared resources, and artistic expression that unites us all,executive director, Delaire Rowe said, "one of our motto's is arts for all."


I used the Nikon D3S, a rode mic and edited in final cut.

WKU Red Vs. White

I thought I would attempt shooting Swimming. WKU held their Red Vs. White exhibition match yesterday as a showcase for fans to see what's in store for the upcoming season. Maybe these aren't the best sports shots, but I'm happy with them since it was my first time to shoot this sport.

The Tattoo is the Western logo and it's a tradition on the boys team to get the tattoo after you have made it through your sophomore swim season.


Probably not the most amazing photo ever, but sometimes a photog has to shoot because the light is so amazing!

Keeneland!

Yesterday morning the practicum class traveled to Keeneland in Lexington, Ky. and spent the day shooting on and around the track. It was a long day that started just after 4:30 a.m but I enjoyed the experience and going to my 1st horse race. We were able to practice using remote cameras and I was able to practice shooting with glass I don't usually shoot with (400mm!) However, my images from that lens reflect I was practicing!

Sportin' It, Yo!

Sports shooting is not my strong hold! None the less, I am working on getting better and while I was in North Ga. last week I went to a Football game and a Soccer game. I was happier with my soccer shooting so here are some of my selects!

It was great to see a game between two teams that are on very similar playing levels because it definitely ups the competition. Eventually Virginia Intermont (black) beat Toccoa Falls College (white) 1-0 after going into two 10 minute overtimes.

Driving to N. Ga.

Driving back home to Ga is so much more enjoyable now. When I lived in Savannah, I was the same distance as where I am in Ky. from my hometown but the drive was so ugly that it really did make it seem twice as long.
Naturally, I had to take a photo of Mr. Droole while I was driving as he was all buckled up in the backseat.

Photo snack from the project I am working on for the next 2 weeks. As a class we decided on the word sexuality. We were given no limitations other then we are not allowed to make images that could not be published and can make it a photo essay or traditional photo story.

Hanayagi Jootome performs a traditional Japanese dance at the Japanese Dance and Music Education tour at Van Meter Hall Monday evening. The event was sponsored by WKU's Japanese culture club.

Here is another one of the weekly features:Gregg Webb instructs his niece, Jewel Walterman on how to bowl a strike on her first bowling adventure. The advice paid off, the seven-year-old bowled two strikes in a row after taking her uncle's advice.

Kristoffer Lysgaard, 17, Brownsville, Ky. spends a Friday night playing pool with his buddies at Southern Lanes. Lysgaard is currently a senior foreign exchange student from Norway.

A little something from the past.

I was going through my hard drive the other day when I came across a photo story I did on WKU basketball player, Sergio Kerusch. I did the story during his senior year (2010-2011). Kerusch had just been named the sunbelt conference preseason player of the year.
Sergio and I met in German class during summer school 2010 and quickly bonded over the fact we are both "half-krauts." Both of our fathers are German born and bred. I decided to post some of the images from the story because Sergio recently signed to play with the Greek basketball team, Aris Thessaloniki.
