Photo Snack!

I grabbed this shot one day when I was covering a fire just before Christmas. It was nice to be able to go back to my still photo roots for a moment since everything I've been doing for so long has been video based. It's not the most epic image, but I just like it and sometimes that's good enough.

Photo Snack!

Simply because Mr.Motley cracks me up! This was what I saw when I finished shoveling his little walkway. I've noticed he LOVES licking the glass on snowy days, but I have no idea why.

Alaskan Women Don't Need Gym Memberships....We Own Shovels!

No, I did NOT go to the gym today. No, I have ZERO guilt about it because I live in Alaska. Land of the midnight sun, the 49th state and a dumping zone for multiple inches of snow. I know it's no surprise, it snows in Alaska...which is exactly why I didn't go to the gym today.
Motley's walkway to our backyard.

The pie I created coming up the stairwell.
I did not skip my indoor sweat session/treadmill pounding workout because it was snowy or cold or the roads were filled with impeccable driving. Instead, I skipped the gym because I had plenty of snow to shovel. Believe me, I was certainly sweating in my snow-pants by the end of my 45 minutes of shoveling so I do not have any guilt about skipping my traditional workout for a "necessity workout." ;-D

Today, I traded my free weights for this beauty.
It has pretty much snowed nonstop for the past 2 days. According to the NWS the last counted numbers were 7 hours ago and we had 12 inches. It hasn't let up much since then and is expected to stay through tomorrow afternoon. So, I can think of inches of reasons why Alaskan Women can opt out of using their gym memberships from time-to-time.

Couch To 5k

As part of my 100 day challenge, I have officially signed up for my first 5K...THE COLOR RUN!

In order to start pounding the pavement, I have gone back to the couch to 5K app and I'm calling on my friend Angie Schleyer. She's a huge runner, but worked at it...it wasn't something she's always enjoyed and that's why I know she's the perfect person to motivate me and encourage me to see with a little dedication and hard work, I too can enjoy running....or at the very least, enjoy the color run.

What makes the color run so exciting for my first 5k is all the fun people look like they're having in the promo ads, why wouldn't I want to good something as fun as that?! Plus, the race is on the morning I'm suppose to fly to California for a week so why not kick off the week long work trip with the satisfaction of having coveted my first 5K.

It's Like Baseball, Kid.

No, I did  not take this photo...I googled it.
That's what one of my local mentors said to me about working in news. Let me explain. After having a particularly stressful day recently I called Rick up and he had also had a crappy day. It was one of those days only people who work in news can understand with stories happening back to back or problems with software and the deadline still remains the same...5 O'Clock. This is where he said, "News is like baseball."

You see, not everyday is going to be a homerun. You're not always going to be the MVP or contribute to scoring a run. Sometimes you just have to get on base. And on this particularly stressful day, Rick made me chuckle when he siad, "all you had to do was get on base...now, it sounds like you had to get hit by the ball to get there, but you got there!" He's right, news is a lot like baseball.

I originally met rick during a live weather shot last summer. I was weary at first, you know because he worked for the "enemy" a.k.a. the number one station in Anchorage, KTUU. However, we instantly hit it off and kept running into each other at various shoots across town. Now Rick and I are pretty close friends and he's someone I regularly turn to for editing advice on my pieces.
